Course description

This course aims to provide learners with the skills and confidence to lead Korfball activities to encourage participation in the sport. The course will cover fundamental skills, basic rules and ideas for engaging games.

This is not a coaching course and therefore learners who aspire to become a coach should look to complete the level 1 award in coaching Korfball.

Who is the course for?

The course is suitable for the following:

  • Young people aged 16 years and above
  • Helpers in clubs who are not ‘coaching’
  • University students
  • Parents
  • Adults other than teachers
  • Project leaders

What’s the value of this course?

This course may lead to paid employment or unpaid voluntary roles as an activator in Korfball. Other roles that the learner may consider exploring include activity leader, official, and volunteer.

Learner eligibility

Learners must:

  • Be at least 16 years of age
  • Be appropriately identified
  • Be able to communicate effectively in English (this includes listening, speaking, reading and writing)

Assessment (if applicable)

Learners will be assessed continually through the course.

Format / duration

The course lasts 3 hours and is 100% practical. 

Progression opportunities

The skills and knowledge developed may also be used to enable learners to progress to other industry-relevant qualifications in coaching sport, activity leadership, higher education institution activity programmes, supporting PE in school sport and sports development. Learners may also wish to explore a coaching route in Korfball.
