|The Boccia Leaders Award has been developed by Boccia England to provide an introduction to coaching and officiating in the sport of Boccia. It is available to organise for groups of learners.
The Boccia Leaders Award provides learners with the fundamental skills and knowledge required to introduce and deliver boccia within the community. Learners will gain an understanding of both officiating and coaching boccia, including an overview of the rules of Boccia, adapting and designing boccia activities, leadership, plus disability awareness and classification.
This is an introductory level course and is therefore suitable for individuals with little or no prior knowledge of boccia. It is also ideal for those volunteering at boccia clubs who are looking to refresh and confirm their knowledge. The course is suitable for school students, teachers, community workers, leaders and players.
Boccia is an inclusive, tactical and exciting sport which can be adapted to suit any audience or community setting. Learners will gain leadership skills and knowledge of how to adapt activities to make them inclusive.
Learners must be at least 12 years old (learners under the age of 18 must have a responsible adult present for the duration of the course).
Learners should be able to communicate effectively in English.
There is no formal assessment as part of this course. Informal assessment takes place to ensure learners are supported and encouraged throughout the course. Learners will receive an e-certificate on completion of the course.
This course is delivered face-to-face and lasts for three hours.
This course provides learners with the skills and knowledge of Boccia required to enable progression to the Boccia England coaching or officiating course pathways. Learners also have the opportunity to upgrade their certificate after the course by evidencing volunteering hours to receive either a bronze, silver or gold leadership certificate.
Learners will receive a hard copy resource and a certificate on completion of the course.
This course requires a minimum of 14 learners and a maximum of 18 learners.
If you are unable to meet the minimum number of learners, we recommend speaking to local organisations to see if they have anyone who would like to join your course.
We could also look at charging more per learner to ensure the course costs are covered to enable the course to run with fewer learners.
