Course Description

Learners will cover the knowledge, skills and behaviours required for all aspects of assessment in both the work environment and for vocational skills, knowledge and understanding outside of the workplace (e.g. a workshop, classroom or other training environment). The course will involve attending virtual classroom sessions with an experienced tutor/assessor, and completion of assessment tasks to demonstrate an understanding of the theory and practical application of assessment practice.

Who is the course for?

The 1st4sport Level 3 Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement will prepare learners for assessing competency-based qualifications, knowledge-based qualifications and vocational qualifications which have a non-work based assessment.

This qualification is widely accepted across the sports industry but please check the requirements of the organisation you intend to assess for before booking.

For assessors who only wish to assess in non work-based environments, we can also run the 1st4sport Level 3 Award in Assessing Vocationally-Related Achievement (AVRA). Please contact [email protected] if you have a group of learners requiring this qualification.

  • Be appropriately identified
  • Be able to communicate effectively in English (this includes listening, speaking, reading and writing)
  • Hold a relevant vocational sports qualification in the subject area/sport they aspire to assess, and at least the same level

If you have any support requirements to enable you to attend and successfully complete the course, please advise us when you book your place on the course. We will then contact you ahead of the course start date to discuss how we can best support you.

Learners must have access to a laptop or tablet. A smartphone device is accepted but functionality can be limited. The device must have access to a microphone as the sessions will be interactive. Please also ensure you have good WIFI access.

After the virtual classroom sessions, learners are required to produce a portfolio of evidence and complete practical assessment tasks. Assessment includes:

  • Completing a series of assessed tasks to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of occupational competence and vocational achievement
  • Planning, conducting and reviewing learner assessments and observation of assessment practice
  • Delivery of four planned assessments for two learners in a non-work environment and two learners in a work environment

Due to the nature of the assessment, learners will need to be observed assessing in their own environment. Learners are encouraged to source their own qualified assessors. Sport Structures are able to provide an assessor for an additional fee.

Learners have three years from the start date of their course to be certificated. We recommend that learners aim to finish six months prior to their course end date to ensure plenty of time for their portfolio to be marked and any amendments to be made so that their certificate can be claimed.

In exceptional circumstances, an extension may be available. Please contact [email protected] as soon as possible if you would like to discuss this further.

Successful learners may progress to further education and training qualifications, such as the 1st4sport Award in the Internal Quality Assurance of Assessment Process and Practice. if they wish to become an internal verifier.
