As a company committed to driving positive change in the sport and physical activity sector, Sport Structures are proud to support coaches in achieving their minimum safeguarding deployment standards.

Over the past few months, we have been excited to offer interactive online safeguarding workshops through UK Coaching and the Child Protection in Sport Unit, to support coaches and volunteers and place a clear emphasis on the importance of safeguarding.

This remains a focal point moving into 2022 and with safeguarding standards more of a necessity than ever before, we are excited to continue empowering coaches and volunteers in the sports community.

Sport Structures Managing Director Kath Percival said: “Safeguarding is a huge priority through the pandemic, especially given recent media cases, the increased risks through social isolation and the challenges associated with Covid-19.

“From ensuring best practice and recognising poor practice to understanding how to recognise signs of abuse and take appropriate action, we feel these workshops are essential to help individuals recognise their role in creating safe and enjoyable environments for everyone to take part in sport.”

In addition to facilitating workshops in the sector, Sport Structures has also developed its safeguarding provision with four staff now qualified safeguarding tutors.

Directors Simon Kirkland and Kath Percival, along with Project Manager People Development Jobeth Hamilton and Tutor Gill Prince make up an experienced contingent of safeguarding tutors within the Sport Structures team.

Percival continued: “We are committed to safeguarding children and adults and supporting the sport and physical activity workforce to access relevant training to support their confidence, knowledge and understanding of safeguarding along with their roles and responsibilities.”

As a company, we have further developed an internal Safeguarding and Prevent Group featuring our Senior Operations and Compliance Manager Ross Szabo and several tutors, aimed at supporting the company’s policies, procedures, and practice in relation to Safeguarding and Prevent.
