Course description
The 1st4sport Level 3 Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement is for learners who need to be qualified in all aspects of assessment. Specifically, it is for those who assess occupational competence both in the work environment and vocational skills, knowledge and understanding outside of the workplace (eg in a workshop, classroom or other training environment). The qualification is transferable to any sector your learners have occupational competence in and provides a national benchmark of good practice for England.

Learners who complete this qualification usually seek employment in appropriate paid or voluntary assessing roles within their specialist subject area, assessing competence based qualifications (eg NVQs), knowledge based qualifications, and vocational qualifications which have non-work based assessment.

Learner eligibility
Learners must:
- Be at least 18 years of age
- Be appropriately identified
- Be able to communicate effectively in English (this includes listening, speaking, reading and writing)
- have access to assess both non-work environment qualifications/assessments and work environment qualifications/assessments
Please note: It is also recommended that learners have an appropriate vocational or competency-based qualification at least one level above the qualification they will be assessing.
Assessment
To achieve the qualification, learners are required to have assessed evidence of:
- An appropriate knowledge and understanding of assessing occupational competence and vocational achievement, which will be assessed via performance, tasks and assignments
- Planning, conducting and reviewing learner assessments observation of assessment practice
- Delivery of the four planned assessments for two learners in a nonwork environment and two learners in a work environment
Assessor Criteria
Due to the assessment requirements for this qualification, learners need to be observed assessing in their own environment. Learners are welcome to source their own assessors (that meet the assessor criteria). Alternatively, we can support in sourcing an appropriately qualified assessor. If the latter option is chosen, a fee will apply. Please contact us for further information.
Learners are required to have access to assess both non-work environment qualifications/assessments and work environment qualifications/assessments away from the course.
Format / duration
This qualification is delivered in one of two formats. Please view the options at the bottom of the page to understand which options are available:
- Online delivery with a course tutor
- Face to face tutored delivery
If choosing an online format, learners must have access to a laptop or tablet. A smartphone device is accepted but functionality can be limited. The device must have access to a microphone as the sessions will be interactive. Please also ensure you have good WIFI access. If you have any additional learning needs, please let us know when registering for the course so we can support you.

Progression opportunities
Learners could seek to gain the 1st4sport Level 4 Award in the Internal Quality Assurance of Assessment Processes and Practice if they are looking to become an internal verifier.
