Course Description

The Boccia Leaders Award provides learners with the fundamental skills and knowledge required to introduce and deliver boccia within the community. Learners will gain an understanding of both officiating and coaching boccia, including an overview of the rules of Boccia, adapting and designing boccia activities, leadership, plus disability awareness and classification.

Who is the course for?

This is an introductory level course and is therefore suitable for individuals with little or no prior knowledge of boccia. It is also ideal for those volunteering at boccia clubs who are looking to refresh and confirm their knowledge. The course is suitable for school students, teachers, community workers, leaders and players.

What is the value of this course?

Boccia is an inclusive, tactical and exciting sport which can be adapted to suit any audience or community setting. Learners will gain leadership skills and knowledge of how to adapt activities to make them inclusive.

Alternatively, we also run courses that are bookable by individual learners

Learners must be at least 12 years old (learners under the age of 18 must have a responsible adult present for the duration of the course).

Learners should be able to communicate effectively in English.

The course contains no formal assessment. However, informal assessment takes place during the course to create a supportive environment and ensure learners have understood all elements of the course. Learners will receive an e-certificate to confirm their attendance on completion of the course.

Before submitting a course request form, please ensure your venue meets the following requirements:

  • A total of 4.5 hours facility hire is required to enable the tutor to start setting up 1 hour prior to the course start time, and 30 minutes set down time after the course.
  • Suitable lighting and heating conditions for learner comfort.
  • A minimum space equivalent to two badminton courts for the practical element of the course, plus either a classroom or additional space equivalent to two badminton courts (four courts in total) to allow the theory and practical to be delivered in the same space.
  • Sole use of the space to minimise noise disruption from other activities, e.g. in larger sports halls.
  • A projector/TV screen and cables, chairs and two tables.
  • Disabled access.

Please check this document for full details of venue requirements.

This course provides learners with the skills and knowledge of Boccia required to enable progression to the Boccia England coaching or officiating course pathways.
