We were invited to deliver an interactive session to seek to improve European national referee instructors questioning skills. Following this session and discussions with FIBA (the International Federation for basketball), we designed a programme aimed at improving referee education across the world. About Us
Each of the 224 countries across world has a FIBA national instructor, yet prior to this programme there was no standardised requirements in place, i.e. no specific training to develop referees within the Federation. We undertook the delivery across all continents of the world, this meant that referee instructors were placed and over 500 people trained on the programme over a period of three years. This programme was built on our undoubted knowledge of tutoring and assessing as well as the understanding of basketball as a sport itself....
From this programme one of the key takeaways we discovered was that tutoring and assessing facilitation skills are essential in all adult learning, whether training coaches, referees or volunteers. Following on from our work on this project this programme led to further training and education being delivered to other bodies, both coach and referee tutoring....
