Course description

The 1st4sport Level 2 Certificate in Coaching (Korfball) is designed for individuals who want to plan, deliver, and review a series of linked and progressive korfball coaching sessions. This qualification is suitable for those working independently or as part of a coaching team.

The course provides a foundation on the general principles of coaching, while introducing the technical and tactical aspects specific to korfball. Topics include:

  • Understanding your role as a coach
  • Developing your coaching practice
  • The coaching process (plan, do, review)
  • Creating and maintaining a safe coaching environment
  • Individual fundamentals
  • Attacking skills
  • Defensive responses
  • Gameplay tactics

Who is it for?

This course is ideal for new or developing korfball coaches who are building towards their Level 2 qualification and may not yet have much coaching experience. It is suited to those looking to develop a solid foundation in planning, delivering, and reviewing korfball coaching sessions.

What’s the value of this course?

This qualification is aligned with the CIMSPA professional standard for a Coach and is officially recognised by 1st4sport. It is the industry-standard Level 2 korfball coaching qualification in the UK, endorsed by England Korfball. Upon successful completion, learners will be awarded the 1st4sport Level 2 Certificate in Coaching (Korfball).

Eligibility

Learners must:

  • Be at least 18 years old on the first day of the course
  • Communicate effectively in English (listening, speaking, reading, and writing)
  • Have access to a suitable coaching environment to deliver a series of coaching sessions
  • Hold a valid Safeguarding and Protecting Children certificate prior to certification (as per England Korfball’s Common Minimum Standards)
  • Have successfully completed one of the following:
    • England Korfball Introduction to Coaching Korfball Award
    • Previous England Korfball Level 1 Coaching Award
    • IKF Level 1 Coaching Award (or higher)
      OR
    • Have at least 12 months of coaching experience (with evidence)

Learners with at least 12 months of coaching experience may be eligible, provided they submit appropriate evidence (e.g. witness testimony) at the time of registration.

If you hold a BKA Level 2 certificate or have significant coaching experience, you may be eligible to enrol on the Level 2 Bridging Course, designed to recognise prior learning and experience.

Format / duration

The course is delivered via a blended learning approach, combining:

  • E-learning
  • Portfolio tasks
  • Virtual classroom sessions
  • A face-to-face technical module delivered by an approved England Korfball tutor at a regional venue

The table below shows an example overview of a typical course programme. Learners can submit for assessment once they have completed the e-learning modules, portfolio tasks and attended the face to face practical session:

Learners are required to complete a 7 e-Learning modules, each estimated to take around 1.5 hours. These can be completed on-demand. As learners progress through the e-learning, they will be required to complete associated portfolio tasks.

Assessment

Learners will be required to:

  • Complete all e-Learning modules
  • Plan, deliver and evaluate a coaching programme in their own club environment (A minimum of six sessions)
  • Video and submit one of the six coaching sessions for assessment by an England Korfball assessor and a professional discussion will be conducted virtually once the video of the coaching session has been observed

Progression opportunities

Learners may be interested in attending the International Korfball Federation Level 3 Coaching course. In addition, learners may wish to progress onto the 1st4sport Level 3 Award in the Principles for Coaching Sport to develop in the learner the necessary skills, knowledge and experience to deliver an annual coaching programme to either adults or young people.

Cost

The cost of the qualification is £375 per person.

Payment 

Flexible payment plans are available for this course to support accessibility.  Learners opting for a payment plan should pay 50% of the course fee to secure their place and we will then contact you to arrange the next payment.

If you wish to pay in full, you will also find the option to pay for 100% of the course fee.

This qualification will run twice per year.

Your payment details are not required. You will be asked to complete your 'booking' details but this will simply be to register your interest and not book onto a course.

  • Thursday 18th September, 7pm-8.30pm - Designing Engaging Korfball Sessions
