Sport Structures works in partnership with Basketball England to deliver this course in response to demand.
This qualification develops the skills and knowledge needed to support high-level players through effective basketball coaching.
The qualification is awarded by Basketball England and 1st4sport Qualifications. It is supported by the NSG for Basketball, comprising Basketball England, Basketball Wales and Basketball Scotland as the trade association and employers for basketball.

For experienced Level 2 coaches
This qualification is designed to prepare aspiring coaches for employment as a basketball coach in paid or voluntary roles, potentially within the elite game. It is appropriate for existing Level 2 basketball coaches wishing to develop coaching skills in basketball.

Prepare for employment as a basketball coach, potentially within the elite game.
Head coach roles
The qualification can lead to paid or voluntary roles in settings including basketball clubs, schools and colleges.
Learner eligibility
Learners must meet all of the following requirements.
Age
Be at least 18 years of age
Previous qualification
Hold a level 2 or equivalent basketball coaching qualification
Competitive coaching experience
Have experience of coaching the same group of players at international level, U16 national league level, regional squad level, College AoC competition, BUCS division 1 or 2 for at least two full seasons within the past 3 years
Current team commitment
Be coaching and training the same team with regular training sessions and have competitive matches scheduled on a regular basis
Communication
Be able to communicate effectively in English (this includes listening, speaking, reading and writing)
Equipment and learning needs
Have access to a laptop, good WiFi and microphone to participate in virtual classroom sessions. Any special learning requirements must be made clear at the registration process
University coaching eligibility
*Please note, if coaching in a university environment, coaches must be coaching in BUCS division 1 or 2 to be eligible.

Attend the basketball camp
3 days of in-situ learning at a basketball camp.
Complete e-Learning
Work through the e-Learning modules alongside your coaching development.
Build your portfolio
Complete the portfolio and practical assessment process using evidence of your coaching.
Keep in touch with your tutor
Join check-in sessions with your Basketball England tutor throughout the course.
Each learner has a maximum of three years to complete the qualification.
Build evidence of your coaching
To achieve the qualification, learners must provide assessed evidence of the following.
Profile player performance
The production of a performance profile for a minimum of three players or a team in basketball.
Design your coaching programme
The design and planning of a basketball coaching programme for a minimum of three players or a team, which should be based upon the outcome of the performance profile(s) developed.
Plan an eight-week cycle
The production of a detailed plan of a discrete cycle or phase (minimum of eight weeks) associated with an aspect of the basketball coaching programme
Produce session plans
The production of a minimum of eight weeks of coaching session plans within the discrete cycle or phase (minimum of eight weeks) associated with an aspect of the basketball coaching programme
Plan ongoing evaluation
The production of a recorded plan for the ongoing evaluation of the basketball coaching programme
Plan player or team reviews
The production of a recorded plan for the ongoing performance and/or development review for either three players or a team; the plan should identify the methodology and timings for the ongoing review
Deliver eight weeks of coaching
The delivery of a minimum of eight weeks of basketball coaching sessions within the discrete cycle or phase (minimum of eight weeks) associated with an aspect of the basketball coaching programme
Submit your coaching video
Submit a video to include individual skill, team defence formation, team offence formation. This video will be required prior any assessment being conducted
Complete two observed sessions
The delivery of a minimum of two basketball coaching sessions, which must be observed by an appropriately qualified assessor on separate occasions. One session must be a training session and the other session, a competitive game.
Understand the cost
Includes assessor fees up to a 50-mile round trip on both assessment occasions.
Additional assessor mileage
If the assessor needs to travel further, the learner must cover additional mileage at 40p per mile.
