Sport Structures - Sport Education and Training

Thank you for your engagement so far in the Basketball England coaching course.

To date, you should have completed the following:

  • Online learning completion via the Basketball England E-Platform (4 modules).
  • Attended 3 x virtual classroom sessions relating to inclusive and safe practice, roles of the coach and the coaching process (plan, do and review).
  • Attended 2 x virtual classroom sessions relating to the Moments of the Game, as specified in the Player Development Framework. The sessions topics were:
    • Offence & Transition defence
    • Defence & Transition offence
  • Attended 2 x face to face tutored sessions, facilitated by a Basketball England tutor

Linked and Progressive Practice (Module 5)

Ahead of your practical assessment, you are required to complete e-Learning modules 1-4 and attend all virtual classroom and practical sessions associated with the Club Coach Award. Once complete, you will be required to deliver 4 x linked and progressive coaching sessions in your own environment. Please note, these sessions should be a minimum of 45 minutes in duration and templates can be found on the left hand side of this page. Once these sessions are complete, you will be required to email [email protected] with the following documents.

4x Linked and progressive sessions (with reflections)
Linked and progressive rationale
Team analysis
Risk assessment (per venue)

A desk based assessor will assess your work and provide you with feedback. This step needs to be completed prior to your practical coaching assessment.

Once a desk-based assessor has marked your work, you will be required to upload your completed assessment paperwork onto the Basketball England e-platform (Module 5: Assessment Paperwork).

We strongly encourage you to work with your mentor who will support your coaching practice. You may wish to familarise yourself with the assessment criteria you will be assessed against when working with your mentor. This has been recently updated to take into consideration the principles of the Player Development Framework.

Please be aware that the registration period for the Basketball England Level 2 Award is 2 years from the course start date. Extensions can be requested prior to the date of expiry.

Assessment of Coaching Practice (Module 6)

Upon completion of module 5, you are able to request assessment by an approved Basketball England assessor. You can either be assessed in situ (assessor comes and observes you) or via video submission. If you would like to submit a video for your assessment, please click here for further guidance.

For ‘in situ’ coaching assessments: Please download a list of approved assessors (available on the left hand side) and contact an assessor who is local to you using the template below.
