Outline

We worked with Sheffield Hallam University to support delivery of the 1st4Sport Level 2 Award in Multi-Skills Development in Sport qualification. Students taking the Sport Development with Coaching degree at the University have the level 2 multi-skills qualification built into their degree as part of a physical literacy module.

Approach

Due to the Covid-19 restrictions, the majority of the qualification was delivered online through the course programme. Sheffield Hallam sought support to deliver the face-to-face practical content and assessment once restrictions had been eased.

Our approach set out to determine what content had already been covered and how best to deliver the remaining content. We wanted to ensure an engaging delivery, providing students with the opportunity to coach and gain feedback on their practice, prior to assessment.  This absolutely mirrored the University’s approach who are very much ‘applied’ in their focus of learning, enabling capacity for students to ‘coach’. The staff at the university were brilliant in engaging with the students and sorting logistics for the course. We provided experienced tutors and assessors to support the delivery process.

Outcome

The remaining content was delivered practically and assessment days were organised to support learners to achieve the qualification.

“Staff have been great, supportive, professional and effective in their delivery and support to our students. Sport Structures were great partners to work with to co-develop an approach which helped us achieve our goal in innovating a delivery model that worked for us and aligned with our high standards”

Andy Gair, Senior Lecturer (Sport Coaching & Sport Development)
