Outline

Sport Across Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent identified the need to increase their digital marketing in the organisation. With our support they recruited an apprentice who joined our first cohort of apprentices. The apprentice completed her two knowledge tests: BCS Level 3 Award in Principles of Coding and BCS Level 3 Certificate in Marketing Principles and passed both first time. A vendor qualification in google analytics was also passed and a portfolio was created that outlined key roles, responsibilities and tasks the apprentice took on throughout the year to help grow SASSOT’s online marketing presence.

Impact / outcome

The apprentice built up a great portfolio of work, parts of which included; updating SASSOT’s website and design, creating an email marketing campaign, increasing school games marketing and communication activation and starting online focus groups. The employer quoted: “There has been three main areas where they have really helped to improve the work SASSOT do. Firstly, the creativity around the content we are putting out there, so they have been really focused on fresh imagery, fresh wording and fresh concepts and the way in which they have been put out, that has been really good for us. Secondly is engagement, we have seen an improvement in engagement especially on platforms such as Twitter and Facebook. Thirdly would be testing new designs and concepts. The apprentice has been really involved in helping us to land a new consultation and process that we put through Facebook, they have been instrumental in putting together the logistics of that as well as helping to manage the online consultation process.” The apprentice said: “Having all these opportunities within my workplace and within my apprenticeship, have been really enjoyable…being able to increase my knowledge in areas such as google analytics has also been very beneficial as I have then been able to implement it in the workplace.” The apprentice has now progressed onto a permanent position with Stafford Borough Council following the positive impact they have made.
