As a main provider of on and off-pitch sports apprenticeships, Sport Structures were excited to join the celebrations of National Apprenticeship Week 2022.

With this year's theme of #BuildTheFuture focusing on how apprenticeships deliver skills and knowledge for rewarding future careers, we caught up with learners, tutors and staff across the company to hear about the impact of their work.

We were also thrilled to see a number of our employer partners join in the celebrations and put the spotlight on their current and alumni apprentices’ success stories.

Out of more than 160 apprentices currently completing their continued learning with the company, we chose to highlight learners on our Management & Leadership and Digital Marketer programmes.

Working closely with Active Oxfordshire and Chief Executive Paul Brivio, we have provided a tailored workforce development solution to the organisation, and had the chance to catch up with the learners themselves.

Speaking to National Programme Manager Harmy Mattu, enrolled on the Level 3 Team Leader/Supervisor Apprenticeship, we heard about how quickly he was applying the learning to his role.

He said: “Some of the things that I’m learning and have learned to be sensitive about, even though I’m not managing anyone now, I’m starting to apply that same thinking and I’m seeing how the reactions and positive outcomes are transferred.”

We also took the opportunity to hear from Digital Marketing tutor Kathryn Monkcom, who took us through the role apprenticeships play in the sports sector, as well as the value of a Digital Marketer for sports organisations.

With digital marketing representing what Kathryn described as a “unique challenge” for the sports sector, apprenticeships provide a highly effective solution for immersing new starters and up-skilling current staff.

Digital skills have become more and more important in the workplace, particularly in the sport and physical activity industry, so it comes as no surprise that organisations such as Active Partnerships and Community Sport Foundations have taken advantage of apprenticeships in Digital Marketing to fill skill gaps and bring in new talent.

#NAW2022 is the 15th annual week celebrating apprenticeships across the country, and having seen the inspiring levels of engagement from our partners, we are already looking forward to next year!
