Hi there,
We wanted to email you to inform you about your mentee’s learning through the Basketball England Level 2 coaching course. To date, your mentee will have been required to complete the following:
- Online learning completion via the Basketball England e-Platform (6 modules).
- Attend 2 x practical coaching days.
- Attend 3 x virtual classroom sessions relating to inclusive and safe practice, roles of the coach and the coaching process (plan, do and review).
- Attend 2 x virtual classroom sessions relating to the Moments of the Game, as specified in the Player Development Framework. These virtual classroom sessions were added into the syllabus due to the lack of opportunity to run face to face practical sessions, given national lockdown restrictions. The sessions topics were:
- Offence
- Transition defence
- Defence
- Transition offence
Prior to their 45-minute coaching assessment in the club environment (observed by a Basketball England approved assessor), mentees are also required to:
- Plan, deliver and evaluate 4 linked and progressive sessions in their club environment. Each session should last a minimum of 45 minutes.
- Complete a linked planner and rationale document for the linked and progressive sessions. As a mentor, you are required to initial that each session has been delivered via this document.
All learners can find the documents for completion via the left panel and the Coaching Resources page. The session plan templates can be found in the log book and on the Linked and progressive planning and planning for your assessment page.
As a mentor, we encourage you to use the assessment criteria (this has recently been updated) to provide feedback to the mentee on their performance as a coach. Supporting their knowledge, understanding and application of technical and tactical elements of the game will also be welcomed (related to the Player Development Framework).
When learners feel ready to be assessed, we have requested that your mentee sends an email to request assessment, copying you into the email to confirm approval that you believe your mentee has every opportunity to be deemed competent.
Please be aware that the registration period for the Basketball England Level 2 Award is 2 years from the course start date. Extensions can be requested prior to the date of expiry.
