Summary

To support the measurement of impact of the Sporting Champions programme on the Sport England project Sportivate we developed two case studies of qualitative research.

Approach

We undertook qualitative consultation with Sporting Champions including former England International Footballer Sue Smith on her visit to Ellowes Hall Sports College in Stourbridge.

Our second case study explored how Sporting Champions can inspire through their work and followed four Champions. We followed Tom Reed a British Judo Champion, Alistair Patrick-Heselton a Paralympic cerebral palsy footballer, Abdi Jama a Paralympic bronze medalist in Wheelchair basketball and Courtney Fry a former Commonwealth Gold medal boxer to sessions and talked to the young people gaining valuable qualitative feedback on how they felt about Sporting Champions attending.

Outcome

We gained some high quality feedback from a range of young people. The feedback clearly demonstrated the positive role Sporting Champions plays in inspiring young people in sport.
