Summary:

Following an open tender process and interviews Sport Structures were invited to be part of the Modern Sport facilitation team. Modern Sport was an established governance and leadership programme.

Approach:

Following appointment to work with a Governing Body Simon follows the structured process of carrying out a diagnostic review, involving surveys and telephone conversations. This informs the planning of Springboard weekends addressing the needs of the Governing Body in relation to governance and leadership. It particularly concentrates on the roles and responsibilities of the board and how they can operate more efficiently.

Outcome:

Sport Structures have supported five Governing Bodies in Scotland including Amateur Boxing Scotland, Table Tennis Scotland, Scottish Canoe Union, Weight Lifting Scotland and the Scottish Volleyball Association. The inter-active sessions address the needs of the Governing Body, in particular clarifying the roles and responsibilities of the board and specifically addressing sport issues such as ethics, board and/or committee structure, marketing and international representation. Two of the bodies have been supported in the development of national strategic plans.
