Summary

We were contracted by the Football Association Education department to carry out an in-depth review if their Approved and development centres delivering coach education outside of the County FA network.

Approach

Following the kick off meeting we met with a range of internal Football Association Education (FAE) staff to understand the current set up and issues with non-County FA delivery. From this we widened our discussions to incorporate more FA staff in the field including; regional managers, lead education staff and delivery staff. This then lead to us undertaking an online survey with the approved and development centres to gain their view about their role and purpose.

FAs a result of the survey we hosted follow up qualitative interviews with a range of development centres to see if we could develop a solution. We suggested a number of recommendations which we shaped with the internal team. From this we tested the solutions proposed to a range of County Football Associations to understand and pre-empt any barriers to our approach.

Outcome

We provided 3 potential options for the future for consideration by the FAE team. Our proposals were considered by FAE and will be taken to the FA board for approval of changes in the delivery model of coach education courses.
