This course develops the knowledge and skills required to lead your own coaching sessions within your own environment.
The 1st4sport Level 2 Certificate in Coaching (Sport & Physical Activity) is endorsed by the Hurlingham Polo Association (HPA) as part of its recognised coaching qualification pathway.
Successful completion enables you to begin coaching independently, without supervision from a Level 2 coach, in a paid or voluntary role.
This recognised industry-standard Level 2 course maps to the CIMSPA professional standard for coaches.

Check your eligibility
Age and identification
Be aged 18 or over and produce photo ID so you can be appropriately identified.
HPA membership and handicap
Be a member of the Hurlingham Polo Association and hold, or have held, a handicap of at least 0.
Your coaching environment
Be part of a coaching environment, working with a current HPA licensed coach.
English communication
Be able to communicate effectively in English, both in writing and verbally.
Computer and connection
Have access to a computer and good Wi-Fi to complete online learning and assessment tasks and attend virtual classroom sessions.
Mandatory entry requirements
You must meet all of these requirements before registration with the Awarding Organisation.
Learn, practise and demonstrate
Online learning and portfolio
Complete online learning through the Sport Structures e-Learning platform and the associated portfolio tasks.
Virtual classroom sessions
Attend two virtual classroom sessions.
Safeguarding workshop
Attend a UK Coaching Safeguarding & Protecting Children workshop if you do not hold a valid certificate. Certificates are valid for three years.
Face-to-face assessment day
Complete course portfolios, deliver a coaching session, take part in a professional discussion on safeguarding and complete a riding test.
Safeguarding workshop fee is additional
The workshop is required to meet certain assessment criteria. Its price is not included in the £840 course fee, as you may already have completed it before signing up.

£840 per person
A payment plan is available: pay 50% to secure your space, then the remaining 50% within 30 days of booking. Select the 50% option in the booking widget to choose this plan.

Additional costs to consider
The safeguarding workshop is charged separately. Missing parts of the course may incur extra fees for assessment at another time. Platform access after 12 months from first access also carries an additional charge.
Support, assessment and progression
What learner support is available?
If you have any support requirements to enable you to successfully complete the course, please advise us when you book. We will then contact you to discuss how we can best support you.
How will I be assessed?
Learners will be assessed via:
- Written tasks via Google Classrooms
- Delivery of a coaching session
- Professional discussion regarding safeguarding
- Riding test
All of the above assessment elements must be successfully completed before a learner can be certificated. If learners miss any parts of the course, they may incur extra fees to enable assessment to be carried out at a different time.
What certificates will I receive?
Learners must pass all elements of the course in order to be certificated. On successful completion of the course, learners will be awarded two certificates, one for the 1st4sport Level 2 Certificate in coaching (regulated) and a second certificate in Sport and Physical Activity (non-regulated).
How long do I have to complete the course?
Learners have a maximum of two years to complete and be certificated for this course. The format of this course has been agreed with the HPA to support learners to complete the course well within the registration period.
Please note that learner access to the e-learning platform is only valid for 12 months from the date the platform is first accessed. If you need access after this date there will be an additional charge.
In exceptional circumstances, the Awarding Organisation may grant an extension to the course registration period. Please contact education@sportstructures.com as soon as possible if you would like to discuss this further.
What can I do next?
After gaining experience as a Level 2 coach, learners may wish to develop their knowledge further with other qualifications, such as:
- A sport-specific coaching course
- Level 3 Certificate in Coaching (Sport & Physical Activity)
