Who is the course for?

The course is for those individuals who have/aspire to have responsibility for the planning, delivery, and evaluation of annual coaching programmes. These individuals are operating or aspire to operate as lead or head coaches.

The course is also an opportunity for those that are currently operating unqualified and wish to gain recognition of their coaching practice. It can also help coaches improve their coaching craft.

What is the value of the course?

The qualification is recognised as the industry standard level 3 qualification for coaches by UK Coaching. Learners should be able to approach their National Governing Body and see if they would accept recognition of prior learning – meaning that if you wanted to attend a level 3 sport specific course, the course may be shortened to recognise the learning that you have already covered. The qualification is also endorsed by the Chartered Institute for the Management of Sport and Physical Activity (CIMSPA).

The skills and knowledge developed through this qualification may also be used to enable learners to progress to other industry-relevant qualifications in coaching sports, activity leadership, supporting PE in school sport and sports development.

Learner eligibility

Prior to registration learners are required to:

  • Provide an appropriate form of I.D
  • Be at least 16 years of age
