Develop your practice as a coach
This course develops the knowledge and skills required to lead your own coaching sessions in your own environment.
It is recognised as an industry-standard Level 2 course and maps to the CIMSPA professional standard for coaches.
Successful completion enables learners who are over 18 to begin coaching independently, without supervision from a Level 2 coach, within the environment in which they were assessed. This may be in a paid or voluntary role.

Check your eligibility
Age and identification
Be appropriately identified and be at least 16 years of age before registration with the Awarding Organisation.
English communication
Be able to communicate effectively in English.
Computer and connection
Have access to a computer and good Wi-Fi to complete online learning and assessment tasks through the learning platform.
Upload identification evidence
Photo evidence of your identification must be uploaded to the online learning platform.
Safeguarding workshop
You must complete a UK Coaching Safeguarding & Protecting Children workshop to meet certain course assessment criteria.
Workshop fee is additional
The safeguarding workshop price is not included in the £280 course fee. You may already have completed the workshop before signing up for this course.
Demonstrate your coaching practice

Discuss coaching practice and safeguarding knowledge with an assessor.
Video your coaching
Provide a video of yourself coaching in your own environment: the setting where you intend to coach after completing the qualification.
Two certificates on successful completion
You will receive a regulated Level 2 Certificate in Coaching and a non-regulated Sport and Physical Activity certificate.
Two deadlines to keep in mind
12 months of platform access
Your online learning platform access lasts 12 months from the date you first access it. Access after this period carries an additional charge.
Aim to finish learning in year one
We strongly recommend completing all learning within the first year, allowing time for assessment, feedback and any amendments.
Two years to complete and be certificated
You have a maximum of two years to complete the course and be certificated. This is separate from your 12-month platform access period.
£280 per person
Start at any time and complete the course in your own time, within the two-year completion and certification deadline.
The safeguarding workshop fee is not included. An additional charge applies if you need learning platform access beyond 12 months from first access.

Support, assessment and progression
What are the learner prerequisites?
Prior to registration with the Awarding Organisation, learners must:
- Be appropriately identified
- Be at least 16 years of age
- Be able to communicate effectively in English
- Have access to a computer and good wifi to complete e-learning and assessment tasks via the eLearning Platform
Photo evidence of identification will need to be uploaded to the eLearning Platform.
What learner support is available?
If you have any support requirements to enable you to successfully complete the course, please advise us when you book. We will then contact you to discuss how we can best support you.
How will I be assessed?
Learners will be assessed via:
- Written tasks as part of a learner portfolio
- Professional discussion with an assessor, including coaching practice and safeguarding knowledge
- Video of them coaching in their own environment (i.e. the environment where the learner intends to be a coach on completion of the qualification)
On successful completion of the course, learners will be awarded a certificate for Level 2 Certificate in coaching (regulated) and a second certificate in Sport and Physical Activity (non-regulated).
How long do I have to complete the course?
Learners have a maximum of two years to complete and be certificated for this course. We strongly recommend you aim to complete all learning within the first year to ensure there is suitable time for your work to be assessed, feedback provided and any amendments made.
Please note that learner access to the e-learning platform is only valid for 12 months from the date the platform is first accessed. If you need access after this date there will be an additional charge.
In exceptional circumstances, the Awarding Organisation may grant an extension to the course registration period. Please contact education@sportstructures.com as soon as possible if you would like to discuss this further.
What can I do next?
After gaining experience as a Level 2 coach, learners may wish to develop their knowledge further with other qualifications, such as:
- A sport-specific coaching course
- Level 2 Certificate in Coaching Multi-Skills Development in Sport
- Level 3 Certificate in Coaching (Sport & Physical Activity)
- Level 3 Certificate in Supporting the Delivery of Physical Education, School Sport and Physical Activity
