Course description
This course will help you to gain the skills, knowledge, and confidence to act as an emergency first-aider in your workplace including sport, physical activity and environments.
You will learn how to assess incidents, manage casualties safely, and provide immediate first aid for a range of injuries and medical emergencies. You will also understand your responsibilities as a first aider, including consent, hygiene, infection control, and reporting incidents.
This course meets the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981 and is regulated at Level 3 (RQF).
Learning outcomes
At the end of the course, you will be able to:
- Understand the roles and responsibilities of a first aider
- Assess an incident
- Provide first aid to an unresponsive casualty
- Provide first aid to a casualty who is choking
- Provide first aid to a casualty with external bleeding
- Provide first aid to a casualty in shock
Who is this course for?
This course is for you if your role requires you to be qualified and competent to act as an emergency first aider in the workplace. It is particularly suitable if you are:
- An employer or organisation operating within the sport, leisure, or physical activity sector who needs to meet legal first aid requirements
- A professional member of staff whose role includes responsibility for the safety and wellbeing of others
- A coach, volunteer, or sessional worker who is required to hold a recognised first aid qualification to meet professional, organisational, or governing body expectations
What’s the value of this course?
This qualification meets the requirements of the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981, qualifies you to be deployed as an emergency first aider, and is regulated at Level 3 (RQF). It also:
- Supports compliance requirements with sector, workplace or National Governing Body expectations which may form license to practice or deployment requirements
- Enables employers to evidence compliance with the Health and Safety (First Aid) regulations 1981
Learners eligibility
Learners must:
- Be 16 years of age
- Be comfortable participating in practical exercises on the floor, including kneeling and positioning casualties
Assessment
Assessment is ongoing throughout the course through practical demonstration of first aid skills, alongside discussion to confirm your knowledge and understanding of first aid principles.
Format / duration
This course is delivered over one day (approximately 7 hours which includes breaks)
Learning covers both practical scenarios and theory, ensuring you can confidently apply first aid in real life situations.

Progression opportunities
After completing this workshop, you will be able to:
- Take on the role of workplace first-aider or emergency responder in your organisation, club or community group.
- Progress to further first aid qualifications, such as the Level 3 First Aid at Work Refresher or Paediatric First Aid courses.
- Apply your skills across sport, leisure, physical activity, voluntary, and workplace settings where first aid capability is essential.
