Course Description

This course focuses on the skills and competencies required to assist the delivery of sports or physical activity coaching sessions under the direct supervision of a more qualified coach. The course will cover:

  • Roles and responsibilities of the coaching assistant
  • Rules and regulations
  • Safe coaching practice
  • Inclusive coaching practice
  • Delivery and evaluation of coaching activities
  • Technical requirements of sport and physical activity

The course is recognised as an industry-standard Level 1 course and maps to the CIMSPA professional standard of a coaching assistant

Who is the course for?

The qualification has been endorsed by the UK Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Association (UKBJJA) as the first step on the coaching qualification pathway for Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in the UK.

The course is designed for those who wish to become involved in coaching at an assistant level, working with the direct supervision of a more qualified coach.  The qualification may lead to voluntary or paid work as an assistant coach. 

Learner Eligibility

Prior to registration with the Awarding Organisation, learners must:

  • Be appropriately identified (provide photo ID)
  • Be at least 16 years of age
  • Hold a minimum of a blue belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (recognised and registered with the UKBJJA)
  • Be an individual member of the UKBJJA
  • Be able to communicate effectively in English
  • Have access to a computer and good wifi to complete e-learning and assessment tasks

Learners must supply photo ID, their UKBJJA membership certificate and their UKBJJA certificate of belt colour prior to receiving access to the course.

Learners are also encouraged to complete a UK Coaching Safeguarding and Protecting Children workshop if they intend to coach athletes under the age of 18.

If you have any support requirements to enable you to successfully complete the course, please advise us when you book.  We will then contact you to discuss how we can best support you.  

Learners will be assessed via:

  • Written tasks as part of a learner portfolio
  • Deliver a 15 minutes practical coaching session which is videoed 

Learners have one year to complete the course. We recommend learners aim to complete all learning in nine months to ensure there is suitable time for their work to be marked and any amendments made to allow their certificate to be claimed before the end of their registration period.
