Course description
This is the basic level of coaching qualification, giving outline knowledge of coaching American Football and enabling the holder to introduce American Football and assist a coach award holder.
Once fully registered with the NGB as a coach, the holder is covered by the association’s insurance for working unsupervised. However, it is recommended that newly qualified coaches work under the supervision of an experienced coach or a minimum Level 2 coach award holder.

Who is the course for?
This course is suitable for parents of athletes, players or ex-players, interested adults, teachers, youth workers, students and others looking to get started in coaching American Football.
What’s the value of this course?
This course is ideal for learners seeking to move into Assistant Coaching positions and for those seeking to develop into positional coaching positions.
Learner eligibility
Be at least 16 years of age.
16 and 17-year-olds are not covered by the association’s insurance for working unsupervised and must work under the supervision of a minimum Level 2 coach award holder.
Be able to communicate effectively in English, including listening, speaking, reading and writing.
Have access to a laptop or tablet.
Any special learning requirements must be made clear during the registration process.
Additional components
The following additional elements must be completed and uploaded to your e-Learning account for the course to be completed and certification awarded. These elements should also be uploaded to the NGB registration system.
USA Football Youth Coach Certification.
This element must be completed prior to practical assessment.
UK Coaching Digital Duty of Care Badge.
If coaching under 18s, this must be a Level 1 Safeguarding qualification.
Please note, completion of pre-requisites is not included in the course price.
Assessment
To achieve the British American Football Coaches Association Level 1 Award, learners are required to provide assessed evidence across online learning, written tasks, tests and coaching practice.
Completing all additional components for the course.
Completing all written and online tasks via the Sport Structures platform.
Completing all online tests associated with the content covered on the course.
Completing an assessed coaching practice element.
Uploading videos to the e-Learning platform.
Format and duration
The course has a flexible delivery model and is delivered through a blended learning approach.
Online learning via the e-Learning platform.
Practical assessment via video submissions.
Completing all additional components for the course.
All elements of the course must be completed within 3 months of the course start date. Learners have a maximum of 3 months access to their online learning account.
Progression opportunities
This course can lead to further learning, CPD or training in coaching American Football and progression onto the British American Football Coaches Association Level 2 certification.
