CIMSPA Professional Standards

The Chartered Institute for the management of Sport and Physical Activity (CIMSPA) is the guardian of a single professional and apprenticeship standards framework for the sport and physical activity sector- outlining the minimum knowledge, skills and behaviour an individual must understand and demonstrate for every occupation and job role in the sector. The standards framework is driving the development of quality education products for our workforce and supporting employers in assessing which job roles an individual is qualified for. CIMSPA have developed Professional Standards for both Tutors and Assessors, these standards can be viewed on the tab below.

There is currently no membership category for Tutor and Assessor practitioners, who tutor and assess sport and physical activity qualifications, therefore CIMSPA have commissioned Sport Structure to pilot a route for existing Tutors and Assessors in the sector, in order to recognise their prior learning and experience and to meet the Professional Standards of Tutor and/or Assessor Practitioner.

The Royal Charter supports CIMSPA to be recognised as the professional development body for the UK’s sport and physical activity sector, operating for public benefit through facilitating the development of regulatory and professional standards which help in shaping a respected, regulated and recognised sector.

The Royal Charter also allows CIMSPA to award Chartered Status to individuals who meet an occupational professional standard and have demonstrated their experience and impact as a professional in the sector. This is the highest level of recognition for individuals in the sector in the UK and signifies exemplar practice.
