We advanced equality in sport by supporting organisations to develop inclusive practices and achieve the Equality Standard. Their approach fosters genuine cultural change, embedding equity into governance and delivery. This goes beyond compliance, driving lasting impact across the sector.

Coaching Communities

The Coaching Communities programme aimed to develop local coaching talent in Sandwell, West Midlands. Initiated with a £20,000 budget, it grew into a £750,000 initiative, training over 500 individuals through workshops, assistant coaching courses, and placements. The programme earned national recognition and significantly improved local employment outcomes.

Inspiration 2012

The Inspiration 2012 project aimed to enhance employability in the West Midlands by providing training and volunteer opportunities linked to the London 2012 Olympics. Collaborating with Wolverhampton College and other partners, the initiative secured European Social Fund support and led to a more diverse volunteer workforce.

Transforming Angling

We led a governance review for the National Federation of Anglers, Salmon and Trout Association, and National Federation of Sea Anglers. The project identified shared interests and cultural differences, culminating in the creation of the Angling Development Board. This initiative enhanced coaching, equity, and participation across angling disciplines.

Boston Sport and Physical Activity Management

We developed a comprehensive Sport and Physical Activity Strategy for Boston Borough Council, addressing the area's low activity levels and high adult obesity rates. Through community consultations and facility assessments, the strategy implemented targeted interventions, including improved transport links and facility upgrades. Three years later, Boston had the fastest rising Active People scores and a significant decline in adult obesity.

Level 3 Digital Marketer Apprenticeship

We developed a Level 3 Digital Marketer Apprenticeship to address the growing need for digital marketing skills in sports organisations. Launched in 2017, the programme includes face-to-face sessions, webinars, and industry-recognised qualifications such as BCS Level 3 Certificates in Coding and Marketing Principles. Apprentices from organisations like British Triathlon and Wolverhampton Wanderers Foundation have successfully completed the programme, enhancing their digital marketing capabilities.

Developing England Korfball

We collaborated with England Korfball to enhance coaching and governance. Katherine Robinson joined the board to develop a coach education programme, leading to the creation of accredited Level 1 and Level 2 qualifications. The initiative also introduced a club accreditation system, improving infrastructure and support for clubs.

Sportivate

We evaluated Sportivate, Sport England’s Olympic legacy programme, from 2011 to 2018. The initiative offered 12-week sport-specific sessions to 14–25-year-olds, aiming to increase regular participation. Utilising a bespoke portal with real-time data, the programme engaged nearly 1 million young people and informed strategic adjustments to enhance inclusivity and long-term impact.

England Handball Coach Education Development

England Handball Coach Education Development

We partnered with England Handball to develop and administer the 1st4Sport Level 2 Certificate in Coaching Handball, marking the first qualification by the National Governing Body (NGB) to appear on a qualification framework. Between 2009 and 2012, course delivery expanded from 23 to 123 nationally, generating over £35,000 in royalties for the NGB. The initiative also included coach developer training, standardisation, and quality assurance, enhancing the coaching workforce and establishing a sustainable income stream for England Handball.

Norwich City Sports Foundation

We partnered with Norwich City Community Sports Foundation (CSF) in 2016 to enhance workforce development. The collaboration introduced apprenticeship pathways in coaching, sports development, and management, along with qualifications like the Level 2 Multi-Skills Development in Sport. Additionally, CSF staff received tutor and assessor training, enabling internal delivery of CPD courses. An annual training plan, based on a comprehensive needs analysis, ensures continuous staff development and organisational growth.

FIBA Referee Instructor Programme

We collaborated with FIBA to develop the Referee Instructor Programme (FRIP), aiming to standardise referee education globally. The programme includes home study, online learning, and intensive workshops, training over 500 instructors across all continents. It has since expanded to include Level 2 and Level 3 courses, enhancing referee coaching and planning.
