Course description

Developed by the Police Boxing Association, The Boxing Leader course is the England Boxing accredited non-contact Olympic-style boxing programme, delivered over one day and is the recommended first step onto the pathway to becoming a boxing coach.

Boxing Leaders are trained to deliver non-contact Olympic-style boxing. The one-day Leader course delivers all of the basics of coaching a session, and coaches do not require any previous boxing experience.

What’s the value of this course?

Once registered with England Boxing through the Police Boxing Association, you will be able to carry out duties as a Boxing Leader. Registration with England Boxing is built into the cost of the Boxing Leader course and you will be supported to complete this process after you have been certified.

Once registered, you will be fully insured by England Boxing in the sum of £5m whilst participating as a Boxing Leader in the capacity of a volunteer.                                           

Successful learners are able to deliver the Contender Am-Box programme. In order to this you must be a level 2 coach (in any sport) or a school teacher (the content can be delivered as a curricular or non-curricular activity). If you do not meet this requirement, any delivery of the Contender Am-Box programme must be carried out under the supervision of a Level 2 coach or school-teacher.

Please note: Generally, you do not require a Disclosure & Barring Service [DBS] Disclosure to carry out your duties as a Boxing Leader however, under certain circumstances, you will be eligible to apply for such a disclosure. If a Disclosure is required you may obtain one from any DBS Registered Body or through the England Boxing registration portal ‘The Vault’

Learner eligibility

Learners must:

  • Be at least 15 years of age
  • Be appropriately identified
  • Be able to communicate effectively in English (this includes listening, speaking, reading and writing

It is recommended that learners bring ONE head & shoulders photograph (taken in a  photo booth) to the course. This is only  required if you wish to register with England Boxing on successful completion of the course.

Assessment (if applicable)

Learners will be assessed continually through the course and learners will receive a pass, not yet competent or fail conclusion.

Certification

Learners will receive a certificate of successful completion of the course. In addition, you will receive a NGB Leaders Registration card & lanyard provided once you register as a Boxing Leader on The Vault.

Format / duration

The course lasts 6 hours and is 100% practical.

Progression opportunities

The skills and knowledge developed through this course may also be used enable learners to progress onto the boxing coaching pathway.

As outlined above, Boxing Leaders can deliver the Contender Am-Box programme. However, if the Leader is neither a teacher or currently a Level 2 coach in ‘any’ other sport, they are required to be supervised by a Level 2 boxing coach or, likewise in schools, by a teacher or Level 2 coach
