The Level 3 PESS apprenticeship is aimed at any aspiring coach working in a school setting. It includes the fundamental learning found in all sports apprenticeships and includes aspects from the teaching assistant apprenticeships.
The Level 3 PESS apprenticeship is a 12 to 18 month programme that is aimed at organisations who want to develop an advanced coach with industry recognised qualifications to deliver high quality school sport coaching. The Level 3 PESS apprenticeship requires a mandatory pre-requisite Level 2 sport qualification such as the 1st4sport Level 2 Certificate in Supporting Learning in Physical Education and School Sport.
The apprenticeship comprises of the following qualifications:
- 1st4sport Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Supporting the Delivery of Physical Education and School Sport
- 1st4sport Level 3 Award in Employment Awareness in Active Leisure and Learning
- OCR Level 2 Functional Skills in English and maths (if required)
The apprenticeship is taught by our team of tutors who have a wealth of experience teaching physical education in mainstream primary and secondary schools. The learning is delivered at an employer’s workplace or another suitable venue and often as a group.
The apprentices must be employed for the duration of the apprenticeship and work at least 30 hours per week for their employer with 20 per cent of their time allocated to ‘off the job’ training. Apprentices will work in a school sport coaching specific role for an organisation and all qualifications must be passed for the full framework to be achieved.
