Katherine joined Sport Structures in January 2007 after achieving a First Class Honours in Sport Development with Coaching from
With a passion for sport, Katherine has been involved in coaching and volunteering for a number of years. She is an accredited tutor in the Level 1 in Sports Leadership, Dance Leadership and Level 2 Award in Community Sports Leadership. Katherine is also a qualified tutor and assesor after undertaking the 1st4Sport Level 3 Certificate in Tutoring Sport and 1st4Sport Level 3 Introduction to Assessment Practice in Sport. She is a regular sports participant and represents her local hockey club.
Role
Currently, Katherine is responsible for designing, developing and implementing a coach education programme which provides support to coaches, volunteers, officials and clubs. This involves coordinating NGB, sports coach
Working within Sandwell Metropoltian Borough Council, Katherine project manages the 5 x 30 Time to Get Active Programme funded by WNF. These include projects at primary and secondary schools, Sure Start centres, sports clubs and voluntary/community organisations. Katherine is responsible for monitoring the outputs and spend of delivery agencies, reporting, assessing applications and ensuring that minimum standards are evidenced by all agencies.
Experience
Katherine has had much involvement with the development of coaches from disadvantaged backgrounds. During her first two years with the company, she was responsible for coordinating a coach intervention programme based within the Sandwell and South Black Country area and this programme won the prestigious Coach Intervention Programme of the Year in 2008 through sports coach
Katherine was also responsible for delivering the Sport for Communities project, funded by Sporting Equals. This has required her to work with specific community groups such as Asian,
Katherine has undertaken consultation with a range of partners and has been regularly involved in consultancy work. This has enabled her to utilise software packages such as SPSS and Map Info. Katherine has also produced the West Midlands StreetGames Coach Education Brochure for the last two years and has organised five coach education courses for StreetGames West Midlands, all of which have been fully subscribed.
Katherine worked within the leisure sector for three years prior to her current role and has also sampled working within local authority sports development.
