England Handball


In September 2010, we became England Handball’s recognised centre for delivery of the EHA level 1 and level 2 coaching awards. We now organise and coordinate delivery of the following;

  • The EHA Level 1 Certificate in Coaching Wheelchair Handball
  • The EHA Level 1 Certificate in Coaching Handball
  • 1st4Sport Level 2 Certificate in Coaching Handball
  • The EHA Referee Level 1 Award

We also assist England Handball in the development of their qualification learning programmes and management and development of the tutor workforce.

Course Organisers

We can help any organisation organise a EHA Level 1 Award in Coaching Handball, EHA Level 1 Certificate in Coaching Wheelchair Handball or the 1st4Sport Level 2 Certificate in Coaching Handball. Please see below for course requirements;

EHA Level 1 Award in Coaching Handball;

  • The course is 6 hours in duration
  • A 4 court sports hall is required or 6m/9m court with 3x2m goals or equivalent (i.e. Handball/Futsal/Indoor Hockey)
  • There needs to be a minimum of 15 candidates and a maximum of 25 candidates*
  • Learners need to be 16 years of age and experience of coaching or volunteering is desirable.
  • Cost per learner is £50 if facility hire is covered by the course organiser .

*As of 1st April 2014, minimum numbers of candidates on an EHA Level 1 Award in Coaching Handball will be 14 and the maximum will be 21. 

The EHA Level 1 Certificate in Coaching Wheelchair Handball

  • The course is 6 hours in duration
  • Wheelchair access & access to 15 sport wheelchairs for use during the course is essential
  • A 4 court sports hall is required or 6m/9m court with 3x2m goals or equivalent (i.e. Handball/Futsal/Indoor Hockey)
  • There needs to be a minimum of 10 candidates and a maximum of 14 candidates
  • Learners need to be 16 years of age and experience of coaching or volunteering is desirable.
  • The cost per learner is £50 if facility hire is covered by the course organiser.

EHA Referee Level 1 Award; *New for 2014*

  • The course is 6 hours in duration
  • A 4 court sports hall is required or 6m/9m court with 3x2m goals or equivalent (i.e. Handball/Futsal/Indoor Hockey)
  • There needs to be a minimum of 15 candidates and a maximum of 20 candidates
  • Learners need to be 16 years of age and experience of coaching or volunteering is desirable.
  • Cost per learner is £50 if facility hire is covered by the course organiser

 1st4Sport Level 2 Certificate in Coaching Handball

  • The course is 3 days in duration (two days together and an assessment day 6 weeks later)
  • A 20m x 40m court with handball markings and run off space is needed
  • There needs to be a minimum of 14 learners and a maximum of 16 learners (one tutor.)
  • Learners need to be 18 years of age and have a Level 1 Award in Coaching Handball or an Introduction in Teaching Handball award.
  • Learners will also need access to a club / handball coaching environment to complete self directed learning tasks.
  • Price £250 if facility hire is covered by the course organiser.

For all courses, If Sport Structures have to incur facility costs, the price per person will increase.

In addition to any course requests, Sport Structures will organise a number of EHA Level 1 courses nationwide based on demand as well as two 1st4Sport Level 2 courses annually, one in the North and another in the South.
